The creamiest and smoothest matcha you will ever taste. Yūgen is our premium matcha option sourced directly from a small family farm situated in the hilly town of Ujitawara in Kyoto Prefecture

Yūgen is stone-milled entirely from the Okumidori cultivar, known for its deep green colour, naturally sweet and slightly nutty profile.

We sourced this directly from a family farm that has poured centuries of tea-making expertise into this matcha. This is our favourite all-round matcha as it provides a smooth umami-tasting experience.

What we like about this matcha is its fragrant nutty aroma, umami, macadamia and edamame flavour profile and floral aftertaste. The creamy and smooth texture makes it an easy drink you can enjoy as both matcha tea (usucha) and matcha latte.

With our mission to create matcha appreciation across the UK, we're providing information about the matcha, including origin, cultivation, shading process and your tasting journey that you can learn while enjoying Yūgen.

Understanding Cultivar

This matcha is milled from the Okumidori cultivar. "Cultivar" meaning cultivated variety refers to the variety of tea leaf the matcha comes from. Just like wine matcha comes from many different varieties.
