Ujitawara

Used for our Yugen Matcha

Although the name "Uji" is most famous globally for matcha, Japanese green tea is said to have been started in Ujitawara. Located just outside Uji town itself. Ujitawara is full of rolling hills and valleys. It offers scenic Japanese cpountryside and centuries of tea heritage with fields that goes back for centuries. Tea cultivation in Ujiatawara began as early as the 12th century. Tea cultivated in this region, is said to have a deep aroma and bright green colour. The farm we used to cultivate our Yugen matcha hails from this specific region. In a a family farm which has been established for over 120 years. Having a long heritage is important when it comes to matcha production because it means the matcha is developed from years of tea knowledge which has been passed down through each geenration.

Yame, Fukuoka

Used for our Kasumi Matcha

Located on the south Kyushu Island. Tea production has been taking place in Fukuoka since the 15th century. The large majority of this production occurs specifically within the Yame region. Within this region, morning mists and fog are frequent. Fog helps block the sunlight which stimulates more amino acid production within the tea leaves. In addition, Yame enjoys an inland climate of high temperature during daytime and very low temperatures at night. The combination of climate and soil helps create teas with a deep rich full body flavour. The region produces a wide variety of teas including matcha and Gyokuro (a premium loose leaf tea similar to matcha).
