What is a matcha tasting experience?

What is a matcha tasting experience?

Why We Created Matcha Tasting Experiences

Matcha tasting experiences are where our matcha brand really began. Before our matcha pouches! There was just a feeling that something was missing in the way matcha was being talked about and consumed.

We started running matcha tasting experiences about two years ago, right as the matcha craze was starting to take off. As people who genuinely love matcha, this was exciting to see. It felt like matcha was arriving in the UK. But at the same time, we noticed that the way matcha was being presented was more about colour, sugar, and aesthetics than about the tea itself.

It started to feel like matcha was being treated as one thing, when in reality, it really isn’t.

One of the biggest misconceptions about matcha is that it’s all the same. That if you’ve tried matcha once, you’ve tried it. But specialty matcha is much closer to wine or coffee. Where it’s grown matters. The tea leaf variety matters. When it’s harvested, how long it’s shaded, how it’s milled, how it’s stored. All of these details quietly shape how matcha tastes in the bowl.

And then there’s the side of matcha that doesn’t get talked about as much: the history, the art, and the philosophy behind it. Matcha has been prepared and shared for centuries, shaped by ideas around mindfulness, simplicity, and attention. When matcha becomes just another drink to grab on the go, that context disappears very quickly.

We wanted to create a space where people could slow down and experience matcha differently.

Our matcha tasting experiences are our way of doing that. They’re not about being overly formal or recreating a tea ceremony perfectly. Instead, we take inspiration from it slowing things down, paying attention, and being present with what you’re tasting. We talk about where matcha comes from, how it’s grown, and why different matchas taste so different from one another.

We also spend time just tasting. Trying matcha from different regions and made from different tea cultivars, side by side. A bit like a wine tasting, but with tea. For a lot of people, this is the moment when matcha take a whole new meaning or context. They realise it’s not just a trend which has to have lots of sugar and other flavourings. It’s a speciality art form which is to be truly appreciated.

Ultimately, we created these workshops because we believe specialty matcha appreciated for what it is.

Our matcha tasting experiences are simply an invitation to do that to slow down, taste properly, and maybe see matcha a little differently than you did before.
